LINDA MONCLA

Linda Decuir Moncla is a self-taught watercolor artist.  She began her art career in high school drawing sketches of her now husband of 40 years.  Her creative  passion was nurtured through an art scholarship from Northwestern State College.  A mentor early-on was Millie McKnight, Moncla’s oil painting teacher.  After completing the series with McKnight, Moncla was offered a teaching position at McKnight studio in Broussard, Louisiana.  Her career in the arts was short lived as Linda changed her focus to family and began a career in advertising and later law.

Two years ago Linda began experimenting with watercolors and rediscovered her love of painting.  In the fall of 2007 she entered the art show at the Sugarcane Festival in New Iberia and took 3 ribbons.  Since, she has participated in art walks in New Iberia and Breaux Bridge with much success.  In 2008 she again entered the art show at the Sugarcane Festival and won Best of Show for her rendition of the rookery at Avery Island, along with numerous other awards.  In November of  2008  and in May of 2009 Linda participated in The Big Easel and found great success with her watercolor paintings.  She is an active  member of the New Iberia Art Guild, the Lafayette Art Association and the Lafayette Watercolor Guild.
