GEORGE MARKS
George Marks sees contradiction in his environment.
Geometrical foundations in his images provide space for human curves,
spontaneous brush strokes, and singular flashes of color; creating a
complex, familiar wholeness. Memory and engagement enable his holistic view.
Images of motion, such as an abandoned house's crumbling stucco and trees
glimpsed through a car window, inspire him to fully explore his personal,
unique creative process that constitutes "mixed media on wood."
The warmth of Marks' colors develops this utilization of the past. The
blues, browns, and reds of the swamp skies surrounding his native
Arnaudville, Louisiana, fill his canvases. Marks' process reveals his human
experience through textures, colors, and surfaces; delivering the viewer his
or her own instinctual associations.
Marks is curator of Grand Contemporary in Lafayette. He has
held solo exhibitions at Art for Arts Sake and White Linen Night in New
Orleans, and at Ann Connelly Fine Art in Baton Rouge. His work appears
regularly at group shows throughout south Louisiana, and he has exhibited in
San Francisco, New York City, Dallas, and High Point, North Carolina.
Marks is a resident of Arnaudville, Louisiana.
He received his degree from Louisiana State University. In addition to the
exhibit with Darnall, Sikes, Gardes & Frederick, his work may also be found at

Contemporary in Lafayette,
