Darnall, Sikes, Gardes &
Frederick is featuring artwork of Brooke Indest Wilke for the
Spring Season throughout our Lafayette office corridors.
During the months of April, May and June, enjoy Brooke's unique
paintings on antique windows, fence boards as well as canvas.
Brooke Indest Wilke was born and raised in New Iberia where she
still lives and works on her art.
She grew up drawing and sketching, encouraged by her parents
to explorer her creative abilities until in her senior year of high
school when she realized that painting was her true passion in life.
A year after her beautiful daughter Holland was born she
summoned the courage to embark on a full time career as an artist
and has enjoyed every step of her adventure for the past seven
years. Her artwork
covers a wide range of topics and themes involving numerous mediums
that highlight the traditions and culture she grew up in while
combining modern ideas of Louisiana life and art.
She uses traditional methods of painting on canvas and has
also painted murals.
Some of her most unique works including painting on windows and wood
to combine the antiqued look of the wood with modern art themes.
In the process of exploring her creative impulses, she
discovered that she has a gift for restoring old furniture.
In addition to the artwork and furniture restoration, she
also specializes in decorative painting, wall texturing and
antiquing cabinets and other furniture.
Brooke competed in numerous locally renowned art competitions, such
as the New Iberia Gumbo Cook Off, winning in 2002 and 2005.
In 2009, she won first place with the elephant piece above in the Lafayette Art Association
art show, “Eye of the Beholder”.
